ENi-1 (AWS A5.11) is a titanium‑calcium coated pure nickel electrode with a nickel content of at least 92% in the weld metal. It is specially formulated for welding Nickel 200 and Nickel 201, as well as for dissimilar joints between nickel and carbon steel or stainless steel. The addition of titanium provides effective deoxidation and grain refinement, resulting in sound, ductile welds with excellent resistance to alkaline media, such as caustic soda.
The electrode operates on AC or DC+ (reverse polarity), offers a stable arc with low spatter, and is suitable for all‑position welding.

Ø Welding of pure nickel: Nickel 200 (UNS N02200) and Nickel 201 (UNS N02201) plates, pipes, castings, and fabricated equipment.
Ø Dissimilar metal joints: Nickel to carbon steel, nickel to stainless steel, and nickel to copper, especially in chemical vessels where carbon migration must be avoided.
Ø Surfacing and repair: Nickel buffer layer on steel, repair welding of defective pure nickel castings.
Ø Key industries: Chemical processing (caustic soda production, VCM), food handling equipment, nuclear power, and marine engineering (seawater treatment, desalination).
The weld metal is particularly resistant to strong alkaline solutions and exhibits low magnetic permeability.
| Parameter | Requirement / Recommendation |
| Cleaning | Remove oil, rust, oxide film (mechanical or chemical) |
| Preheat & interpass | Preheat 80–120°C, interpass ≤100°C |
| Polarity | DC+ (reverse polarity) preferred |
| Technique | Low current, short arc, fast travel speed, narrow beads |
| Electrode drying | 250–350°C for 1 h, store in holding oven |
Ø Store electrodes in a dry, well‑ventilated warehouse, preferably at 10–30°C and relative humidity below 60%.
Ø Once opened, keep the container tightly sealed. If the coating becomes damp, redry as specified above.
Ø Do not re‑dry electrodes more than twice.
Ø Welding fumes and gases can be hazardous. Ensure adequate ventilation and use local exhaust if necessary.
Ø Always wear welding helmet with appropriate filter lens, flame‑resistant gloves, and protective clothing.
Ø The technical data provided are typical values. Actual results may vary depending on welding conditions and base metal. Pre‑qualification testing is recommended for critical applications.
