What Is Flux Cored Welding Wire?

Flux Cored Welding Wire (FCW) is a tubular electrode filled with fluxing materials that generate shielding gases and slag during welding.

It can be used in:

  • Gas-Shielded FCAW (FCAW-G)
  • Self-Shielded FCAW (FCAW-S)

Compared with solid MIG wire, FCAW provides:

  • Higher deposition rate
  • Deeper penetration
  • Better performance in outdoor welding conditions
  • Improved productivity in thick-section welding

Typical Applications of Flux Cored Welding Wire

Flux cored welding wire is widely used in heavy structural fabrication, bridge construction, shipbuilding, and industrial steel assemblies where high deposition efficiency and deep penetration are required.

Its stable arc performance and excellent adaptability to outdoor environments make it especially suitable for on-site construction, field welding, and high-productivity fabrication operations.

Nickel alloy flux cored wires are commonly used in demanding service conditions requiring superior mechanical strength, crack resistance, and corrosion resistance, including offshore structures, pressure vessels, and chemical processing equipment.
