Choose ER308LSi when:

What About Corrosion Resistance?
Both wires have the "L" designation, which means low carbon (below 0.03%). This is what protects against intergranular corrosion, the kind of corrosion that can ruin a weld over time. In terms of corrosion resistance, ER308L and ER308LSi are nearly identical. You are not sacrificing protection by choosing one over the other.
Crack Sensitivity & Cost Consideration

Crack Sensitivity

One consideration that deserves attention is crack sensitivity under certain welding conditions. In most standard applications, both wires perform very well. However, in high-restraint joints or when weld dilution creates a fully austenitic structure with low ferrite, ER308LSi may show slightly higher crack sensitivity compared to ER308L.

This is not a common issue, but it is why ER308L is still preferred for critical code work and high-risk welding applications.

ER308LSi is usually slightly more expensive due to tighter silicon control. But in real production environments, it often delivers better overall value because:
